There is little surprise that Australia is the world’s driest continent. Though the rains have been more favourable in the last couple of months, the drought is far from over. This was very evident on our recent holiday to South Australia via Victoria and returning to Wollongong via Broken Hill. We saw wineries that were acres of vines were dead from lack of water in Nagambie to lakes that were bone dry such as Lake Bolac. And to see the Murray River is just as heart breaking. Though poly tanks would not have helped these places much directly, but if each resident and business in Australia would install a poly tanks then there would be much less demand on our dams, lakes and river systems. Each one of us can make a difference collectively.

With the controversy about indirect potable reuse of recycled water at its height, especially in Goulburn & Toowoomba, rainwater harvesting into private poly tanks is becoming a lot more attractive to many people.

Then we are also faced with the very real possibility of increased infrastructure with more dams being planned, in Qld and Tasmania, diverting water from rivers such as the Shoalhaven River in the south coast of NSW. We not even tackling the possible effects these have on the environment, which is a whole different issue which some people can be very passionate about.

“The Australian” reports that the cost of water in Perth and Brisbane will increase tenfold over the next 25 years if the nation's two boom cities are prevented from buying supplies from the bush. And the cost of water in Sydney will jump 6X, in Melbourne, 5X present levels, if governments sit on their hands and allow irrigators to hoard supplies.

There may be not much we can do about the governments, and we certainly can not imitate God and make it rain at will, so the next best thing is to install poly tanks from Coastline Plastic Water Tank and take charge of the things you can control.
