Rain water tank rebates are common with government bodies encouraging people to be water wise. Rainwater tank rebate amounts & conditions vary according to your state/council/shire/water utility. For NSW the rebate has been scaled so that the highest level will be paid for tanks that are connected to toilets and washing machines. The conditions are mentioned fully on the Department of Environment and Climate Change (DECC) website. In a nutshell you need a minimum 2,000 litre capacity tank (combined capacities qualify too! eg two 2,000 litre wall liner tanks = 4,000 litres qualifying for the $400 rebate). This rebate may be in addition to any rebate offered by your local water utility. A handyperson or DIY'er can install a rainwater tank in your back yard just for watering your garden and/or washing your car. A licensed plumber is required for all connection pipe work such as your toilet, washing machine, shower etc. The water tank rebate is paid back to you after the purchase and installation of the tank. A inspector from the water utility may come to ensure you do have a tank installed on your property.
