Questions Answers 1. I have town water. Why would I want a water tank? A water tank has many advantages from health issues, economic and environmental issues. In the long term it will save you and your family money as well as giving you control over your water conservation. Let alone the great health and taste benefits of fresh rainwater. There are many aspects to consider so we have dedicated a whole page to assist you. Click here to jump to this page. 3. What comes with the tank if I order? Each above ground tank has at least one moulded in overflow. Your tank will also come with a free fly screen mesh leaf strainer, a brass outlet and a choice of 2 ball valve taps - one suitable for pumps the other for connecting your garden hose to. 4. What else might I need with a tank? You may want a pump especially if you need to get water uphill from the tank. There are different sizes to suit different needs and budgets. If you are getting a pump, you will also need a suction hose kit to connect tank to pump. Other optional extras may include a first flush diverter to take away the first lot (ours is 60 litres capacity) of dirty water. Some people may want a lid rather than a strainer especially if using a diverter. A pump house (cover) will help protect your pump from the weather. A top up kit is also something to consider to ensure that your tank never goes completely empty, it will use town water to keep a minimum level of water in your tank, especially good for underground tanks, toilet flushing & washing machine usage. In NSW, new houses, extensions over a certain figure and developments must meet a minimum water conservation measure (the Basix requirements) to have their plans passed. Other states may have or will soon introduce similar measures to encourage people to become water conservative. 6. Where are you located? Are you Australian? We are a fully owned Australian family run company, established and run by Australians. Our manufacturing plant is in the beautiful Wollongong, just 90 minutes south of Sydney. 7. Why are your tanks are better? We make all our tanks to a high standard insisting on a minimum 3.5 times safety factor. This ensures that each tank is much thicker than the minimum Australian Standards. Because of such, we have never had to replace a tank in the 30 odd years we have been making water tanks, a record I doubt that is matched by any other tank company in Australia.. We make our tanks from virgin polyethylene, in computer controlled ovens which controls the temperature and speed of rotation at all times to ensure such high standards. We randomly test and check our tanks to double check that all is as it should be. Coastline Plastics have been making water tanks for over 34 years. We are industry leaders and have been consulted as advisors for government bodies. Our tanks are made all in one piece. There is no seam in the tank itself. Though some tanks may look like there is a seam, what you see is the mark of the steel mould where it meets upon closure during the cooking procedure. 9. Some tanks have steel bands or straps around them. Is this important? This is NOT a good sign. If the tank has straps, bands, etc around the tank then the tank itself is not strong enough and needs the additional support of these to help stop the tank from bulging, stressing and eventually splitting. This is especially important on slim or wall liner tanks. 10. Will I get a rebate? How do I get it? Rainwater tank rebate amounts & conditions vary according to your state/council/shire/water utility. For NSW the rebate has been scaled so that the highest level will be paid for tanks that are retrofitted & connected to toilets and washing machines. Click here for more details. |
